Selecting dining chairs tends to be tricky for most of my clients. They tend to be pricey because you’re typically buying at least four, and you want them to be stylish, work nicely with your dining table, and stand the test of time.

Created in 1959 by designer Jorge Zalszupin and named after his youngest daughter, the Marina Dining Chair can be customized in a variety of leathers, fabrics, as well as, base materials. Available at Avenue Road. Price upon request.

The Pierre outdoor dining chair from Rove Concept is made from a textured rope weave that’s wrapped around an aluminum base. The cushions are removable and there are several color variations to choose from. Available at Rove Concepts. $299-$427.

The Niemeyer dining chair, named after the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and designed by Joana Santos Barbosa for Insidherland, is pictured in bouclé, oak and brass but is available in custom materials. Available at 1stDibs. $2,118.

Sarah Sherman Samuel’s sculptural and sleek Whit dining chair is constructed of ash wood with a padded bouclé seat. Also available in a honey-colored wood. Available at Lulu and Georgia. $1,298 (set of two).

The Custom Extra Wide Dining Armchair with a two-toned metal base is available in a variety of jewel toned fabrics, many of which are water repellent and stain resistant. Available at 1stDibs. $2,600

CB2’s Doheny Burl Wood Dining chair is made with a spill-resistant performance fabric contained in a laminated mappa burl wood shell and sitting upon tapped legs with a gunmetal finish. Available at CB2. $499.

Designed by Elena Salmistraro for Emmeboli, the Timea Dining Chair features a recurrence of round shapes with an upholstered seat and a base constructed of wood and metal. Available at DDC. Price upon request.

Constructed of thick green fabric woven around and contrasted by a shiny, gold, metal frame, the Tyrone Upholstered Armchair is light, yet feels both sturdy and comfortable. Available at All Modern. $740 (set of 2)

From the Portuguese furniture maker Casa Manga, the Grace Vintage Dining Chair melds modern design with organic materials. The oak and cane structure can be painted black (as shown) or left natural, and the seat and backrest upholstery is available in a wide variety of fabrics. Available at Casa Manga. $3,063.

The Everette, a1930’s style dining chair by Made Goods, has an antique empire shape and is made of an olive ash veneer. The cushion can be upholstered in a wide range of fabrics. Available at Made Goods. $1,650.
