If you’re looking for an untraditional way to add some spark to your room – look upward! While not quite as overt as papered walls, adding pattern, texture, or even just some color to your ceiling will give an unexpected punch to any interior.
Some tips:
1. The pattern should be in proportion to the size of the room. Small patterns look great in small powder rooms but could be overwhelming or even dizzying in a larger space.
2. Use either walls or ceiling molding to create a frame for paper, and don’t be afraid to paint your molding to accentuate the look.
3. If you’re looking to make your ceilings look higher, choose wallpaper that is lighter in color than your walls.
Here are some looks that we love:
Designed by Martin Kobus for the 2019 San Francisco Decorator Showcase, this geometric wallpaper by de Gournay accentuates the beautifully arched ceiling and adds modern contrast to the classically French architecture.
Here at En Luxe Design we used a floral wall mural on grass cloth by Phillip Jeffries on the ceiling of this Los Angeles home office, adding color, a sense of whimsy, and a touch of femininity.
Baily Austin’s creates a continuous and immersive experience in this small powder room with Cole & Son wallpaper on both the ceiling and the walls.
A collage of lush fabric covers the ceiling in this very rock ‘n’ roll room in a musically themed home in Austin designed by Fern Santini.
Interior Designer Laura U. used a custom wallpaper on the ceiling of this modern and otherwise minimalistic boy’s bedroom.
